Howcroft Industrial Supplies Champagne Stakes (Group 2) – 15:00, 16th September 2017

One of the tracks most prestigious races, the Howcroft Industrial Supplies Champagne Stakes is bound to be an exciting race for punters, with a number of competitive entries, including horses from Khalid Abdullah, who, of course, held a keen and vetted interest in the development of Frankel; the world’s most famous horse, in history.

One of our favourite picks for the race, is Gustav Klimt, the winner of Superlative Stakes at the same contest, although it’s not yet clear on whether or not his owners – the highly-respected Ballydoyle team – are actually going to bring him to the course, or whether they’re choose to enter him at Curragh, instead, but if he does show up, he’s one to keep an eye on.

Another we like the look of, is Rajasinghe, winner of the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot; notable for breaking the course record, beating the second-place finished by just a head, he looked set for a fantastic summer – but unfortunately, a disappointing run in the July Stakes saw him finish third. Having said that, if he can bring his best game to the race, he stands a good shot at being crowned winner, and it’s likely the bookies will price him up fairly generously, so he’s one to keep an eye on, for sure.

Perhaps the best outside pick for the race looks to be Masar, who did really well to finish third in the Chesham, especially given his relative lack of experience. He’s got good experience over 7-furlongs (the length of today’s race), and if he can bring his best game, he looks set to be a strong contender for a top three finish, making him a great each-way bet, in our opinion.

One last horse to mention is Prince of the Dark, which is a horse trained by Clive Cox. While his last couple of races haven’t been too impressive, he’s been trained rigorously in the last few months, and, it’s worth remembering that his dam is a half-sister to multiple mid-distance types, hitting that – once he can tap into his potential – he stands a solid chance of making an impression.

Overall, it’s not the easiest race to pick a winner – but there’s good each-way value in both Masar and Prince of the Dark, so it may be worth considering adding them to your multipliers for the day, as they’re likely to offer good value.
