Special Tiara wins at the Cheltenham Festival

Cheltenham Festival fans witnessed one of the biggest upsets to date, as Special Tiara won the Queen Mother Champion Chase priced at 11/1. What made this totally amazing was that the 2/9 odds on favourite, Douvan, was never in the race from the start and finished a woeful seventh.

Special Tiara was the second win at the Festival for jockey Noel Fehily; and was actually his 100th winner of the season. The jockey admitted after the race that he never thought they would be able to beat Douvan, and set his sights on second place. However, Noel was thankfully proven wrong; and on the day, Special Tiara, as so often the case in big races ran the perfect race. It definitely gave trainer Henry de Bromhead something to treasure for the rest of his life, as there is really nothing to compare to winning the Queen Mother Champion Chase at a Cheltenham Festival!

On the other hand, Douvan, ridden by one of the most accomplished jockeys Ruby Walsh, and trainer Willie Mullins; were all in total shock and must still be thinking as to what went wrong. This would have been especially disappointing, considering Douvan was unbeaten in the last 13 races; and would have most likely been a banker for many punters on the day. In fact, one unlucky person placed a half a million quid on the horse at 1-5; and like everyone else would have had no doubt that he would be making a cool £100,000 profit for his troubles, but it was not to be.

The shock result just goes to prove that when it is your time to win, there is nothing and no one that  can stop it from happening. How many times one would hear about various people winning huge life changing cash jackpots from an online casino operator or even some lottery; which lends to the theory that winning and losing is inevitable and undeniable.

Gambling probably provides some of the best examples of destiny. One only has to look at other winners on the day at the Cheltenham Festival like 14/1 winner Willoughby House in the Neptune Investment Management Novices Hurdle and 33/1 winner Flying Tiger in the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle.

The only advice one can offer punters who suffered financially because of, what has got to be, the biggest upset of the Festival this year; is that they should take solace in the fact that, like Special Tiara and Noel Fehily, one never knows when it is your time to win big!
