Thursday’s second race at Ayr sees a number of more-than-capable entrees to the renowned J.H. Commercials Handicap Class 4 race, and with 14 runners, it may sound like a tough race to pick – but as you’ll see below, there are a few horses that stand out from the rest of the pack.
One of the most notable names to keep an eye on, is Bamber Bridge, and this lightly-raced three-year-old is usually backed well by punters – and this is likely to be the case when he races on Wednesday, given his spectacular performance in his last race, just a few weeks back.
Once again, he drops further down the weights, meaning he’s got a better chance than ever to perform on his a-game… and with P Hannagan taking the reins, he’s in the control of one of the industry’s most experienced jockey’s, so, at 9/2, there’s some fantastic value here.
Another we like the look of, is Waarif, who’s come out of the D O’Meara yard. Ridden by D Tudhope, this horse was picked up for 23,000 Guinness in the end of last year, and while his form over the last two races has been anything but stellar (he placed 6th, and 4th), before then, he went on quite a remarkable winning streak, winning a whopping 4 races back to back, and placing 2nd, 4th, and 2nd, in the three races before.
Whether he can do enough to beat the likes of Bamber Bridge remains to be seen, but at 4/1, he’s a decent price, and one that we’d recommend having a small punt on, for sure.
In terms of the outsiders of the race, we like the look of Normandie Lady, who, at 8/1, offers great win, and place value. While she’s paid the price for her early victory in her career, she’s trained by the industry-famous Richard Farhey, and with such an experienced trainer putting in then work with her, it’d be a surprise, to say the least, to see her run a poor race.
Overall, it doesn’t look like there’s an ‘easy pick’, per se, but the three names we’ve mentioned above are definitely worth thinking about, and we’d be surprised to see them all fall out of the top three.
