Leicester V Liverpool – 23rd September

In one of the rarer moments of the football season, Leicester City and Liverpool meet on Saturday for the second time in just five days, having played Tuesday evening. The mid-week fixture saw 2015’s Premier League winners beat Liverpool 2-0, and that’s a heavy advantage going into Saturday’s game, which sees Leicester enjoy the support of their home crowd.

What’s more, while the 2-0 victory was impressive, Leicester did the job without some of the main players, with the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez sat on the bench – while Liverpool fielded one of their best sides we’ve seen (including the likes of Phillipe Coutinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Jordan Henderson), although all failed to make an impact on the game, with Liverpool unable to get a single shot into the back of the net.

Indeed, the mid-week win for Leicester managed to bring their three-match winless run to an end, although it should be pointed out, that two of these three games, were against Manchester United, and Chelsea.

Liverpool have displayed mixed levels of form throughout the season, with their first game perhaps indicative of things to come, with the red’s tying 3-3 with Watford at home. While the game itself made for fantastic viewing, it was a disappointing start for the team, and fans were, admittedly, hoping to kick-off their Premier League season with a victory.

Since then, things have been on a steady decline for the team, with Manchester City destroying them 5-0 in their second-last Premier League appearance. Similarly, they failed to defeat Sevilla in their Champions League opening game – something which saw fans getting angry, due to the ‘poor performance’ some accused the team of putting on…

And since then, they’ve endured a draw at home to Burnley, followed by, of course, their mid-week defeat to Leicester.

Going on form and performance this season alone, Leicester look to be the favourites going into this Saturday’s late game, and there is some clear value to be had here, with bookies pricing a Leicester win at 3/1 (Betway).

A Liverpool win is priced at around 11/10, so they are – strangely – the odds-on favourites…

But as is always the case in the Premier League, the result is anything from easy to pick – and it could go either way!
