This Saturday sees the world’s #2 ranked cricket side take on the West Indies, and with a stellar recent performance in the T20 events, England look to come into the competition with a strong competitive advantage.
With both Joe Root and Alex Hales scoring impressive innings recently they join the likes of the top ten batters, with Eoin Morgan falling just short – and this competitive line-up should prove to be beneficial for the home-side. Plus, with the likes of players like Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, and Dawid Malan all likely to be fielded, there’s a strong chance that England could see their innings take precedent over the visitors.
The West Indies, on the other hand, are ranked 4th in the world but that doesn’t mean they don’t possess a decent chance of putting up a good fight. Fielding players including Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Kieron Pollard, and Jerome Taylor, there’s a fair-few familiar names within the side…
And despite being ranked 4th in the world, there’s a reason this team are currently the world champions; in fact, their last meeting with the English side saw the team take victory – relatively comfortably – and they’ll be looking to re-create this performance today.
With six wins out of their last 12 matches, they’re not in the best form they could be (at one point they managed to score an impressive 14-match win-streak), although it should be pointed out that three of these six wins were against Afghanistan – a team who it’s fair to say, aren’t in the mixes, when it comes to the world’s best.
Overall, the money looks to be siding with a British victory – but as is so often the case with Cricket, the actual result could vary dramatically.
We’ll be expecting the team who bats first to play an aggressive game – regardless of which side the coin lands – and with both teams desperate to score a victory (for fans, and their world rankings like), it should be an interesting match.
Good weather looks to make the match a memorable experience for fans – and with full television coverage for all Freeview TV owners, anyone can tune in to the event, from home!
